This Twitter exchange between singer Abhijeet and a Kashmiri politician reminds us of our childhood squabbles

Singer Abhijeet caused a stir last week for his statements on Kashmir and the Army's use of a human shield on the by-polls day

At a time when Sonu Nigam is making headlines over his continued remarks over the use of loudspeakers for azaan, his contemporary Abhijeet Bhattacharya has caused a stir for his statements on Kashmir. For the past few days, Abhijeet is exchanging heated words with opposition National Conference on Twitter.

Sources say this fresh row erupted a week ago when NC leader Tanvir Sadiq had a face-off with Abhijeet during a news show related to Kashmiri youth having been used as a human shield by the Indian Army. While the singer supported the Army, the opposition leader sought inquiry into the “shameful incident.”

This triggered a heated exchange of words but the argument didn’t end there. Though the program concluded, the duo dragged their war of words to social media, literally showering “saala and sadhela” abuses on each other. While Abhijeet was joined by his brigade of fans, Sadiq got support from his colleagues like NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattoo.

“Don’t take yourself too seriously. You’re still a “struggling singer”. As for teaching me a lesson – come to Kashmir. Teach me. I dare you,” Mattoo tweeted.

Abhijeet reacted saying:  “Just wait️Let our Army clear the road..V all #Hindus, #kashmiriPandits will come back, resettle n do d rest of d सफ़ाई of U #पाकिस्तानीदलाल.”

Now it was Mattoo’s turn again. “Not talking of Kashmiri Pandits (it’s their home). Talking about you – come to Kashmir. Teach me a lesson. Easy to be all macho on Twitter.”

In the meantime when a Twitterati came in support of Abhijeet, Sadiq reacted: “Commendable is when ppl like u support @abhijeetsinger in name of patriotism who once insulted India saying ‘Sala sadela country hai apna’.”

Suddenly the warring factions started discussing karma and it resulted in more of mudslinging. “Karma!he once said Dogs sleep on the road & die.Roads r not ancestral properties of poor. Now he is struggling & on the road @abhijeetsinger,” the NC leaders tweeted.

Tanvir Sadiq defends his party’s stand on Abhijeet. The NC leader says it has become a fashion in India that to attract prominence many “outdated celebrities either go for Islam-bashing or unduly poke their unsolicited nose in Kashmir issue so show their patriotism.”  “We just wanted to cut one such comic character to size,” Sadiq told InUth.
