Congress leader and former member of Parliament, Jagdish Tytler refused to undergo lie detector test for his alleged involvement in the 1984 Sikh riot case and even did not appear in the Delhi Court on February 10.
The Court posted this matter for further hearing to February 23.
Reacting on the Tytler’s this move, senior advocate HS Phoolka, who is also representing victims in the riot case, took to his Twitter handle and wrote:
“Tytler refused to undergo the Lie Detector Test. Court will decide on 23rd February. Earlier demanded it but refused it shows that he guilty.”
Earlier on February 9, a Delhi Court had directed the Congress leader to appear before it in connection with 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. The Court’s directive came after CBI sought its permission to conduct a lie detector test on Tytler.

Besides Tytler, the investigative agency had also sought to conduct the test on arms dealer Abhishek Verma, who had allegedly claimed that Tytler had tried to influence a witness. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate had asked Tytler and Verma to appear before him on February 10 at 4 PM to ascertain their stand on the plea.
The riot that ensued after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in October 1984 claimed lives of nearly 3,000 Sikhs. The case pertains to the death of three Sikhs in the aftermath of the riots that broke out after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Tytler has been given a clean chit by CBI thrice in the case but the probe agency has been directed by the court to further investigate the matter. Verma has made several statements to CBI against the senior Congress leader that he allegedly pressurised witnesses in the case.
