An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer identified as Brajesh Kumar Shukla who was admitted for a routine cataract surgery has reportedly gone missing from the Command hospital in Kolkata just a day before he was scheduled to be discharged.
According to a report in the Times of India, Shukla who is a junior commissioned officer got admitted to the hospital in Alipore on April 26 and underwent a cataract surgery on May 2. However, his family members and the hospital staff were reportedly unable to trace him since the evening of May 4. “A ward boy was the last to see him around 5 pm on May 4. A day earlier, he spoke to my mother about how the day had been,” Shukla’s son Tarun told the daily.
Brajesh was posted in the Jorhat district of Assam while his wife lived in Nagpur. The daily reported that Shukla’s phone was found on his hospital bed. It was the hospital authorities who reported the matter to the IAF police after Shukla went missing. The police who are currently making efforts to trace him even went on to speak to his family members but have been unable to find his location as yet.
The report further suggested that apart from speaking to the other patients and hospital staff, the police is also going to investigate the CCTV footage of the hospital and figure out if Shukla had left the hospital alone or was he accompanied by someone.
“As of now, we are not suspecting any foul play. But his sudden disappearance has come as a shock to the family as he last spoke to them on May 3 and everything seemed fine. I have spoken to everyone conceivable, including other patients at Command Hospital, his colleagues, and even the commanding officers in Jorhat, but there have been no leads,” Tarun told TOI.
