As many as 60 students studying at the one the prestigious engineering institute in India, Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur were terminated by the college because of their poor performance even after the repeated warning from the Institute.
As per a report published in Hindustan Times, among those who have been terminated by the college, there are forty -six undergraduate students, 8 are postgraduate students and six are research scholars. Some of those who are terminated from the Institute are in the final year of the course.
On the decision taken by IIT-Kanpur to terminate these many students the Dean of Academics, Dr Neeraj Misra said that there is nothing new about it and it is a lawful practice that the college follows. Those students whose performance is not satisfactory are given few chances to make an improvement. If they fail even after that the college takes action against those students.
The students were given the option for mercy appeal. However, no concession through mercy appeal was given by the Institute to those students who were very weak.

According to a source, parents and guardian of the students who are terminated, have been informed about it and the college has taken measures in order to ensure that the students who are terminated do not take any extreme step.

Meanwhile, on Friday Supreme Court halted the admission process to Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institue of Technology (NITs) and many other engineering colleges over giving bonus marks to the students this year in the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). The matter will be further heard on July 10.
