Thousands of members from Dalit community have gathered at Jantar Mantar to protest against the recent clashes that took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur. A few days back in Saharanpur clash broke out between the two communities leaving one dead and many injured. However, the police on Saturday had refused to give the permission for the protest.

One of the agitators present at the Jantar Mantar said that we gathered to protest for the incident that took place on May 5 in Saharanpur where people from Thakur community burnt 80 houses and 20 shops. Yogi government is not giving justice to people of our community.

According to Times of India, Ashok Bharti, a Dalit activist and also among the coordinators for the event on Saturday said, “Now that the government is trying to deprive the Dalits of their democratic right to hold a peaceful rally and put forward their demands and grievances, people will reach the venue tomorrow (Sunday) at any cost and if stopped from assembling, we will hold a larger rally soon”.

The clash broke out in Saharanpur on May 5, when the members of the Rajput community while carrying out a procession on the birth anniversary of Rajput king Maharana Pratap were playing a loud music. To which some of the Dalits objected and soon the heated argument turned into a clash.
