In the second leg of the budget session that started on March 9, both Government and the Opposition showed concern on the recent killings of Indians in the United States.
Reacting to the rampant increase in the number of hate crimes against Indians in America, Congress leader and former Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge held the newly-elected US President Donald Trump responsible for such incidents.
Kharge, in the Lok Sabha said, “Such incidents, like attacks on Indians in USA, have increased after the new US President has taken charge.”
He also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on these incidents and urged him to make a statement in the Parliament on this issue. “PM tweets on every other issue, why doesn’t he talk on this issue? Why is he silent? He should make statement today,” he added.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh also made a statement in the Parliament on the matter and assured that steps will be taken to ensure that Indians feel secure in US. “Incidents regarding Indians in USA (is being) taken very seriously, statement on behalf of Government of Indian to be given in the Parliament next week,” he added.
On February 22, Srinivas Kuchibhotla—a 32-year-old Indian techie—was shot dead by an American man Adam Purinton in Kansas. Few days after the Kansas incident, another Indian-origin businessman Harnish Patel was shot dead outside his house in South Carolina.
