Delhi: Trainee IAS officer found dead in institute’s swimming pool situated in JNU

The trainee IFS was identified as Amit Dahiya by the Delhi Police.

A trainee Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer was on Monday late night found dead in the training institute’s swimming pool situated in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). According to initial information, the 2016 batch office has been identified as Amit Dahiya. The incident took place between 12:00 and 1:00 am.

Amit Dahiya’s body was discovered in training institute’s pool based in south Delhi’s Ber Sarai area. He was a native of Sonipat, said the police.

According to a News Nation report, a PCR call was received at PS Vasant Vihar during early hours of the morning which claimed that the officer was being taken to hospital. The report suggests that the trainee IAS was aged 30 years.

The deceased was reportedly attending a get together with his friends from Indian Foreign and Revenue Services. During the poolside party late in the evening, the party goers, who were consuming alcohol, decided to go for a swim in the club’s pool.

Eyewitnesses claimed that a lady officer probably had an accidental slip into the pool while swimming and many young officers, including the deceased, attempted to rescue her.

The lady officer was safely pulled out, however, it was then when people noticed that Ashish was missing. Soon his body was soon discovered to be floating in the water, suggests the report.

Attempts were made to administer CPR to the deceased and the deceased trainee IAS was rushed to Fortis Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Police are collecting the evidence from the spot and they are expected to record statements of relevant persons regarding investigation of this tragic episode.
