Delhi: Three Muslim men brutally thrashed by animal welfare activists for transporting buffaloes

Fourteen buffaloes were being taken to Ghazipur, Delhi’s only slaughterhouse and biggest wholesale meat market, were rescued and the vehicle seized.

Three Muslim men were allegedly assaulted on April 22 night for transporting buffaloes ‘in a cruel manner’ in south Delhi’s Kalkaji area. The victims were attacked by a group of people, including animal right activists, according to reports.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the injured men were admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre from where they were discharged after medical attention early today.

The police has reportedly said that this incident did not happen due to a matter of illegal transportation of cattle but because the victims were carrying them in a cruel and inhuman manner. Two FIRs were registered. One against the three men for cruelty towards animals and the other, for the assault against them.

The victims have been identified as Rizwan, Kamil, residents of Pataudi in Haryana, and Ashu from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. The report suggests that the PCR had received a call from Gaurav Gupta, an animal activist and an office-bearer of People for Animals (PFA).

It is being alleged that five to six PFA activists assaulted the three men. PFA’s Gupta has reportedly denied that assault charge and claimed that the three men were beaten up by people who were enraged on seeing the animals being treated cruelly.
