Coming soon! New Rs 10 notes with improved security features

The old notes of Rs 10 will continue to be a legal tender in the economy

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) made an announcement on March 9 that it will soon issue new currency notes of Rs 10 with high-security features—the old Rs 10 notes will continue to be a legal tender in the economy.

A press release from The Reserve Bank of India said that it will shortly issue Rs 10 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 with letter ‘L’ inserted in both the number panels and bearing the signature of Dr Urjit R. Patel, Governor, Reserve Bank of India, and the year 2017 printed on the back of the banknote.

The numerals in both the number panels of these banknotes are in the ascending size—from left to right—while the first three alpha-numeric characters (prefix) remain constant in size.

Earlier on November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi surprisingly announced the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes in a bid to curb the corruption and black money in India after which RBI released new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 bank notes.

The new Rs 500 note are completely different from the old note while the new Rs 2000 note had 17 major features. The new Rs 500 note came in stone grey color, whereas the Rs 2,000 note with a magenta-colored design.

Rs 2000 note were introduced to strike balance for Rs 500 and Rs 1000 note has Mangalyan launch representing India’s scientific and research development.
