Coming Soon! Law Ministry’s new TV channel to discuss issues like triple talaq and UCC

The Law ministry is considering to hire leading Bollywood directors like Prakash Jha to produce the programs

The Union Law Ministry will soon launch its own television channel to discuss key issues like triple talaq and the uniform civil code (UCC). It has already written to the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry seeking the operational rights for the TV channel.

The proposed channel will also organise debates on important judgements delivered by the courts.

The Law Ministry has asked for a separate channel for this purpose from a bouquet of 32 direct-to-home (DTH) channels launched by the ministry of human resource development (HRD) called ‘Swayam Prabha’ to broadcast programmes for school and university students.

‘Swayam Prabha’ broadcasts programmes especially designed for the students of Indian schools and universities.

According to a senior officer associated with the project, “the idea is to create a bank of enriched material on legal issues that can be best used by the common man.”

Initially, the government will start broadcasting programmes for a few hours every day. The channel will run 24×7 when the content to air the program is sufficient for the viewers.

The ministry is considering to hire leading Bollywood directors like Prakash Jha to produce the programs.

Earlier, the UPA Government thought of launching a TV channel dedicated to the Supreme Court. But the apex court was completely against the recording of its proceedings, the government had to drop the idea.
