Close shave for 168 passengers as Jet Airways plane tail hits runway

168 passengers travelling in the Jet Airways plane recently had a narrow escape as the aircraft's tail hit the runway while landing.

A Jet airways plane carrying 168 passengers recently had a narrow escape as the plane’s tail hit the runway on landing on January 22. The airline has dismissed the pilots that were on duty that day. The mishap took place, when the plane that was travelling from Mumbai hit the runway while landing in Dhaka airport.

A team from Boeing company will reportedly visit Dhaka to assess the situation and analyse the damage caused to the aircraft. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has been informed about the entire incident. Bangladesh authorities are also going to investigate the matter since the mishap unfolded in Dhaka. Also, the plane has been brought back to routine operations.

The airline has confirmed that no injury has been caused to any passenger or the eight crew members on board. The aircraft has also affirmed that they would provide all the necessary support throughout the investigation.

This comes almost a month after a Jet Airways flight from Goa to Mumbai with 161 people onboard, including seven crew members, skidded off the runway. Fifteen out of 154 passengers who were onboard, sustained minor injuries. All guests and crew were safely evacuated. The incident took place when Jet Airways flight 9W 2374 was aligning to takeoff from Dabolim Airport.

The aircraft also released a statement back then saying, “Jet Airways regrets to inform that its flight 9W 2374, from Goa-Mumbai veered off the runway while aligning for takeoff. All guests and crew have been safely evacuated. Few guests have sustained injuries during evacuation.”

Among the recent incidents involving aircrafts, a major mishap was averted after IndiGo and a SpiceJet airplane came face-to-face on the runway at Delhi Indira Gandhi International airport on 27 December. The pilots had to bring their flights to halt after they came face to face.
