Chhattisgarh: Patients forced to share bed as hospital vacates entire floor for CM Raman Singh’s family

Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh is facing flak from opposition who allege that his family was given VVIP treatment at the cost of other patients

A government-run hospital in Raipur allegedly had to vacate an entire floor to accommodate Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh’s daughter-in-law Aishwarya Singh, who was expecting a baby. Singh’s daughter-in-law was admitted to Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial hospital where she gave birth to a baby girl at 10:30 AM on Saturday.

The entire second floor of the 700-bed hospital had to be vacated for Ms Singh on Friday, NDTV reported. The CM, along with his family members including his MP son Abhishek Singh — Aishwarya’s husband, was present in the hospital at the time. The expecting mother was given a special room. Three other rooms were converted into security centres, which are occupied by the nearly 50 police personnel.

Consequently, the first floor got overcrowded with patients. In the labour ward, two women were forced to share a bed. One of the patients told NDTV,

We were admitted on Friday and got only one bed… It is difficult to share a bed. We told them, but they said you will have to manage. Nobody is listening to us.

Even some doctors, who were recovering from food poisoning, had to be moved. An ailing doctor revealed,

We have a sick room and as per provisions they should have admitted all of us to the sick room, but they have converted the sick room to police control room.

Earlier, the Chief Minister proudly shared the photograph on Twitter in which he was seen holding his newborn granddaughter in his arms. He was applauded for setting an example by admitting his pregnant daughter-in-law in a government hospital instead of a private hospital.
