Chennai’s tsunami girls dribble their way to Tamil Nadu police

13 years after 2004 Tsunami, 33 Cuddalore girls are dribbling their way to national teams and to Tamil Nadu police force

The 2004 tsunami caused massive destruction in India. Among others, it orphaned 33 girls from Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. 13 years later, these girls have dribbled their way to national teams and to Tamil Nadu police force all thanks to a retired school headmaster Mariappan Subramanian, who took these girls under his shelter fed them and coached them to success.

But these girls are not just footballers. While five of them are working as sub-inspectors with the Tamil Nadu Police Force, two others are constables. One of them is a researcher and three others have completed their M.Phil at St Joseph’s Arts and Science College in Cuddalore.
