Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is all set to lay the foundation stone of the much-awaited high-speed Ahmedabad-Mumbai train. The ambitious project will reportedly commence on the day India celebrates its 75th year of Independence ie on August 15, 2022. Abe who is on a two-day visit to India was welcomed by the Prime Minister himself at the airport.

Both of them also participated in a road show to Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. PM Modi is also expected to host a special dinner for Japan Prime Minister his wife. Here are 10 interesting facts you need to know about the Bullet train:

1. The projected is estimated at a cost of whopping Rs 1.10 lakh crore. Former railway minister had earlier stated that Japan was funding 85% of the project.

2. The project is expected to be completed by 2023. However, railway minister Piyush Goyal affirmed that the project may end in 2022.

3. Even though the fares have not been decided, Railway officials have asserted that the rides would be “affordable for all” and the fares could be compared to that of Rajdhani Express AC-2 tier.

4. The train is expected to at the 12 railway stations on the route, but only for 165 seconds.

5. The train which will initially have 10 coaches will be able to accommodate 750 passengers. Indian Railways also plan on adding 6 more coaches so that they can accommodate 1250 passengers.

6. Total of 35 bullet trains is expected to be operated. 24 of the bullet will reportedly be imported from Japan. The remaining will be manufactured in India.

7. The train which aims to reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will take 2 hours and 7 minutes to cover the distance between 2 cities.

8. The train will run at a speed of 320 Kmph and a maximum speed of 350 kmph.

9. The bullet trains will reportedly have 2 extra toilets for wheelchair-bound passengers. The train will also have a special room for breast feeding and ailing passengers.

10. The project will generate employment opportunities for over 20,000 workers. “Some of the new areas where construction skills would be developed are ballast-less track, under sea tunnel etc,” the government said.
