Big relief for Gurgaon from liquor ban! These restaurants and pubs may be allowed to serve alcohol now

In what may come as major relief, these restaurants in Gurgaon may be allowed to sever liquor after the distance was re-measured

Days after the Supreme Court announced that the bars and restaurants were not allowed to sell liquor within the 500 metres of the national highway, the excise duty officials re-measured the distance from National Highway 8 (NH8).

According to an Indian Express report, in what may come as major relief to a number of restaurants and the bar owners the officials confirmed that the most of the places that were re-measured crossed 500 metres. The reports further suggested that the areas that were remeasured include, Ambience Mall and CyberHub The Westin,, Crowne Plaza, The Leela Ambience, Trident, The Oberoi, and Country Inns and Suites by Carlson and will probably be given relief.

They also reportedly used motorable distance to measure the distance from the highway. “The distance was measured using a radometer, and was considered according to the master plan. We measured only motorable distance,” district town planner Sanjeev Maan who is also one of the members of the committee that was formed to remeasure the distance told the daily.

Some of the hotels have changed their routes in a bid to bypass the SC’s order. Apparently, the Trident and the Oberoi have gone ahead and closed their main entrance that was close to NH 8. Several media reports also suggest that Gurgaon’s cyber Hubs have “moved” 1.8 km from the NH 8.

Ever since Supreme Court announced its order, pubs and bar owners are trying to come out with different ways and method to beat the directive. The restaurants have claimed the order has caused a major loss in business and loss of jobs for a number of employees.
