Days after the Election Commission rejected Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s request to conduct the Municipal corporation of Delhi (MCD) election using paper ballots, the Aam Aadmi Party government has now moved the Delhi High court demanding the use of paper trail machines in the upcoming MCD polls.
This comes days after Kejriwal demanded a thorough verification of paper trails and he claimed that there were manipulated during the recently concluded Punjab assembly elections. After an analysis of booth-wise voting pattern, we have concluded that there has been a large-scale rigging through tampering of EVMs,” AAP had told ECI in a letter.
The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also filed a police complaint against Kejriwal after he called the Election Commission panel as “Dhritarashtra.” “The EC has become ‘Dhritarashtra’, who wants his son (Duryodhana) to win by hook or crook. The EC’s motive is not to conduct the elections but to ensure the BJP’s victory,” Kejriwal had said during a press conference.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal’s government has also sought donations from the common public to contest the MCD polls. “AAP believes in Transparent Funding, it runs on your money.” In a video released by AAP, Manish Sisodia asked people to donate to the party with an open heart.
During the campaigning, Kejriwal has promised to give a major makeover to the national capital and make it look like London within a years time. “Garbage-free Delhi, corruption-free MCD,” is the AAP government’s moto for the upcoming MCD elections.
