Barely two days after facing a major drubbing in Punjab and Goa polls, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal has written to Election Commission of India urging the poll body to not use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for Delhi Municipal Polls.
Kejriwal’s letter to EC comes two days after Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati allegations that EVMs were tampered in favour of BJP and demanded fresh voting with ballot papers.
Following state polls results, the Delhi CM conceded defeat and said that he honours people’s verdict and that all his party members worked hard; their our struggle will continue (Janata Ka faisala sar aankhon par sabhi karyakartaon ne bahut mehnat ki, Sangharsh Jaari Rahega).

Kejriwal has previously stated that the poll results of March 11 will be a ‘huge surprise’ for the ‘so-called political pundits’ and that they will get as many as 100 seats in Punjab. However, it was Congress under Captain Amarinder Singh that scripted a stunning victory with 77 out of 117 seats. The AAP, with 20, was a distant second.
EVMs were introduced in India in 1999 and replaced the entire ballot paper system in 2004 Lok Sabha polls.
