If various theories are be believed, one of the reasons that a senior government official highlighted was that she was beyond caste and religion for the party. Hence, the Dravidians wish to bury her with sandalwood and rose water instead of cremating her mortal remains.

While some even believe that Jayalalithaa will be buried because her mentor Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR was buried. Jayalalithaa will be laid to rest near MGR’s memorial site on Marina beach. Some Dravidians even claim that they can still hear the sound of MGR’s watch ticking near his memorial site on Marina Beach.

People at large believe that Jayalalithaa was introduced to politics by MGR, who, apart from being a renowned actor, director and producer, had served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for three terms. They went on to star in whooping 24 films together.

Another possible reason of her being buried could be that Jayalalithaa do not have any blood relative to light the funeral pyre apart from her niece  Deepa Jayakumar. Reports suggest that Jayalalithaa’s aide Sasikala does not want Deepa Jayakumar to get involved with the final rites because she was a “potential challenge”.

Deepa, the daughter of the Chief Minister’s only brother late Jayakumar, who had tried to meet Jayalalithaa when she was undergoing treatment at the Apollo hospital in Chennai was denied permission for unknown reasons.

Iconic leader Jayalalithaa was buried today with complete military honours in the presence of millions of people on the Marina beach. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi also attended the funeral. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee also reached Chennai to pay homage to the AIADMK chief.
