Big relief for Dhanush: Madras High Court dismisses claims of elderly couple in paternity case

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has dismissed the petition in the paternity case of actor Dhanush

In what is surely a big relief for actor Dhanush, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has dismissed the petition in the paternity case. An elderly couple had claimed that the actor was their son and had demanded maintenance charges from him. The actor had time and again refuted their claims and the HC’s judgment would surely come as a relief to him.

The case gained mileage when an elderly couple from Manampatti village in Melur Taluk approached the court saying that Dhanush was their son. They claimed the actor was born to them on 7 November 1985. They said he was their elder child and produced photos of Dhanush in the court, alleging he was their son.

Katharesan, a private bus conductor, claimed that Dhanush studied in RC Middle School and Boys Government Higher Secondary School in Melur, till Class 10. When he was admitted to Class 11 in Arumugam Pillai Seethaiammal HSS at Thirpuathur in Sivaganga district in 2002, the son escaped to pursue a career in acting.

The couple demanded a maintenance charge of Rs 65,000 per month and claimed that they were poor despite having a rich son. They also claimed that they tried meeting the actor in Chennai but couldn’t find any success.

Upon hearing the couple’s pleas, the court ordered a DNA test. The couple had claimed that Dhanush had a mole but the medical reports did not find any such mark on his body. The report said a small superficial mole had been removed using laser technique without any trace. Similarly removal of another large mole can be seen by thermo scope, it said.

After perusing the report, Justice Prakash posted the matter to March 27.

The Madurai bench of the high court earlier on March 2 had stayed a Melur’s magisterial court proceeding on the elderly couple’s paternity claim over Dhanush.
