Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa took her last breathe on Tuesday, 6 December at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai. She was in hospital since September because of her critical heath conditions and suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening. A large team of doctors from Apollo and AIIMS tried every possible life saving measure, but she lost the battle on Tuesday late night.

Not only her supporters, but the whole film industry is also mourning the death of Amma. Jayalalithaa’s demise is a huge loss for this country as we have not only lost a prominent political figure, but have also lost a yesteryear superstar of Tamil cinema.

When Jayalalithaa was 16, she signed her first Kannada film Chinnada Gombe, to keep herself busy during her summer vacations. In fact, she later thought of getting back to studies, but destiny had some other plans stored for her. She was offered a Tamil film by a renowned filmmaker and said yes because of her family’s worsening financial condition.

But what started as a timepass became her lifeline. With her on-screen confidence and her charismatic personality, she managed to become one of the most celebrated actress of her time. In fact, she is the only Tamil actress to have maximum number of silver jubilee hits.
