Kerala Box Office: Mammootty’s The Great Father emerges as the actor’s first Rs 50 cr blockbuster

The Great Father has won the Vishu Box Office battle by a huge margin to emerge as the first Rs 50 crore blockbuster for Mammootty

Malayalam actor Mammootty’s The Great Father is nearing one month of its theatrical release. Written and directed by debutant Haneef Adeni and jointly produced by Malayalam actor Prithviraj, director Santhosh Sivan, Tamil actor Arya and producer Shaji Nadeshan under their home banner August Cinema, the suspense-thriller released on 30 March 2017.

InUth had previously reported that the Mammootty starrer had broken all the existing opening day records at the Kerala Box Office. Upon its release, The Great Father had minted a whopping Rs 4. 31 crore on its opening day to become the top opener across the cinemas of Kerala. The Mammookka film has overpowered the opening day collections of Rajinikanth starrer Kabali and Mohanlal’s blockbuster, Pulimurugan to do the same. The Great Father is also said to have collected Rs 20 crore in 5 calendar days to become the fastest Rs 20 crore grosser at the Kerala Box Office.

And now, The Great Father has crossed the coveted Rs 50 crore at the Box Office worldwide. The film has so far collected nearly Rs 35 crore in India while the overseas collections stand at Rs 15 crore. It’s a remarkable feat considering that The Great Father has four major Vishu releases to compete with at the Kerala Box Office including Mohanlal’s 1971 Beyond Borders, Dileep’s Georgettan’s Pooram, Nivin Pauly starrer Sakhavu and another Mammootty’s release Puthan Panam. But The Great Father has won the Vishu Box Office battle by a huge margin to emerge as the first Rs 50 crore blockbuster for Mammootty.
