Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel plans to retire from his late-night talk show

Ever since the show 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' started back in 2003, Kimmel has been working 70 hours a week.

Famous comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is considering putting a kibosh on his show Jimmy Kimmel Live! and is planning to retire. For the last 14 years, Kimmel (49) has kept the show up and running through his hard work and sweat. Sad isn’t it? But Kimmel is feeling pretty positive about his decision.

Ever since the show started back in 2003, Kimmel has been working 70 hours a week for ABC. No wonder he is thinking about retirement. But, sadly for him, he cannot just stop getting out of bed from tomorrow. Kimmel has a contract which is valid till late 2019. Until then, he has to continue with the show, however exhausting it is.

“I know I will do the show for another three years. It’s possible that will be it. My wife’s pregnant. At a certain point, I’d like to have a little more free time. I have very little free time as it is,” Kimmel said. Currently, Jimmy Kimmel Live! pretty much eats up his entire day. He has to extensively research on his guests and prepare his wise-cracker monologues which made him the funny talk show host that he is today. Kimmel has even hosted Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra on his show.

He stated that he starts off bright and early and arrives at the studios at 9 am. It only until 5 pm that he starts shooting after finishing off with all the back-end work.

“I think this job is a grind, and best-cast scenario, a marathon. I want to go out on my own terms. If I ever feel like we’re repeating ourselves, I think it’s a good indication that its time,” he said in an interview with Variety. “I will miss it when I go. Television is changing quickly. I get a lot of offers to do a lot of different things,” he added.

Kimmel also said that he would like to explore more of his interests. “If there’s something that excites me creatively, it doesn’t necessarily mean something in show business. I like to draw. I like to make sculptures. I’d like to write a book at some point. Doing the show every day doesn’t leave a lot of time for that.”
