Sachin: A Billion Dreams released today and it got brilliant reviews from critics. Will Sachin Tendulkar's story pose problems for Bahubali 2 at Box Office?

Sachin Tendulkar and cricket have managed to stay at the centre of Indian obsession since time immemorial. So when a docu-feature was announced on the life of the Master Blaster, all his devoted fans got excited. After all, they would now witness the making of history and how Sachin Tendulkar and how he became the God of Cricket. Emotions aside, the most important question right now is- Will Sachin: A Billion Dreams stop Baahubali: The Conclusion’s dream run at the Box Office?

The biopic directed by James Erskine has till now only impressed critics. They have said the movie serves as a reminder of all the memories that Sachin created for us. It captured the emotions of cricket lovers for the Master Blaster. The rave reviews it has got will definitely take cine-goers to theatres. In fact, just is the craze of Sachin Tendulkar that despite poor reviews, the movie would have found takers at the cinemas.

When a biopic was made on an Indian cricketer the last time, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, it became one of the highest grosser of last year. The tale of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain who led India to win the World Cup in 2003, which had Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead, was loved by viewers. Dramatising the story and heavily promoting the movie worked wonders for MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, and it earned a lot of money at the Box Office.

The same cannot be said about Sachin: A Billion Dreams. The movie was neither promoted nor dramatised and these two factors might do its magic for it. Keeping it real in the movie with anecdotes about his life shared by Sachin himself may make this movie successful. The movie released in 2400 screens in India and 400 screens overseas. The numbers are decent and the movie can easily earn over Rs 15 crore in the first weekend.

But saying that Sachin: A Billion Dreams might stop Baahubali 2’s breathtaking run at the Box Office would be an overstatement. Courtesy, a positive word of mouth, Sachin’s movie would definitely run to packed theatres but it will not match the level to SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus. Such is the craze of Baahubali 2 that it is still minting money at the ticket counters.

While the final numbers would be out only tomorrow, Sachin: A Billion Dreams will definitely become a successful documentary.
