Madhur Bhandarkar receives Bharat Gaurav Award in New York, dedicates it to Indian armed forces

Madhur Bhandarkar is also a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri and has made name for himself with movies like Page 3, Traffic Signal and Chandni Bar

Madhur Bhandarkar, who is gearing up for his next release Indu Sarkar, has received Bharat Gaurav Award at United Nations Hall in New York. Bhandarkar dedicated his award to the Indian armed forces. The 48-year-old director took to Twitter and expressed his happiness on getting the award.

“Honoured to receive the #BharatGauravAward at UN hall in #NewYork. I humbly dedicate it to our Pride #IndianArmedForces & their families,” he tweeted.

Bhandarkar is also a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri and has made name for himself with movies like Page 3, Traffic Signal and Chandni Bar.

Bhandarkar made his directorial debut with Trishakti in 1999 and went on to direct several critically and commercially successful films. The popular drama film, Fashion in 2008 also garnered him several accolades including Filmfare Awards nominations for Best Director and Best Screenplay.

On the work front, he is currently busy with Indu Sarkar, which stars Kirti Kulhari, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Anupam Kher. Neil would essay the role of Sanjay Gandhi in the film. The movie is based on a 21-month long period, from 1975 to 1977, when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi unilaterally had a state of emergency declared across the country.

Music composers Anu Malik and Bappi Lahiri have also joined hands, for the first time, to create music for Indu Sarkar, which went on floors in the first week of December.

The flick is slated to release mid-2017.
