Is Ranbir Kapoor the reason behind Sanjay Dutt not doing a role in his own biopic?

Sanjay Dutt was keen on playing the role of his father Sunil Dutt in his own biopic, but things didn't work out as planned. Here's why

Sanjay Dutt’s biopic went on floors on January 14 and is one of the most awaited films of this year. Recently, the whole cast of the film was also finalised by the makers and with such strong performers, the film is surely going to be amazing.

While Ranbir Kapoor will play the role of Sanjay Dutt in the biopic, the role of his father Sunil Dutt will be portrayed by Paresh Rawal. It is being said that Sanjay Ditt himself wanted to play the character of his father in the film, but it didn’t work out.

The decision of not featuring Sanjay Dutt int he film was taken mutually by Rajkumar Hirani and himself, as Dutt’s presence will take the limelight away from Ranbir Kapoor.

Apart from Ranbir Kapoor and Paresh Rawal, the role of Dutt’s mother Nargis will be played by his on-screen lover Manisha Koirala. The film also features Dia Mirza, who will portray the role of his wife Manayata in the biopic.

According to a leading daily, a source close to the film told that Sanjay Dutt was asked to pick an actor whom he thinks could bring his character to life on the celluloid and said:

Sanjay has given over 200 hours of recording as basic matter for the biopic. While Hirani was writing the film, Sanjay was toying with the idea of playing Sunil Dutt because as a father, he was the one person who had closely seen the ups and downs in his life. Sanjay was extremely close to his dad, and he thought he could emulate him better than any other actor. But he dropped the idea, even before letting his buddy Raju know what he had on his mind, and allowed him to choose an actor who’d be perfect to play the late actor.
