Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017: PM Modi rally in Meerut, top highlights

This was his first rally since the Samajwadi-Congress announced their alliance in the poll bound state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed his first election rally at Merrut in Uttar Pradesh. During his rally Modi abbreviated Samajwadi, Congress, Akhilesh and Mayawati a “S.C.A.M”. He also linked his Merrut rally with India’s first war of independence in 1857, saying it was a fight against the British then and now it is a battle against poverty and the state’s rulers who have obstructed growth and development.

This was his first rally since the Samajwadi-Congress announced their alliance in the poll bound state.

Here are the highlights:

PM Modi while addressing a rally said:

Two faced Congress have allied with Samajwadi.
In Meerut, Jat community has a strong hold who decide the winners in 55 seats. In 2014 general assembly elections The BJP had won 47 out of the 55 in 47 of these 55 constituencies in the 2014 general elections. And as in the Lok Sabha elections of 2014, the youngsters of the community — making around 25-30% — want to give Modi a chance, as of now.
