Ahead of the state assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav addressed a joint rally with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi in Meerut and attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his statement in which he described the abbreviation of ‘SCAM’.

CM Akhilesh Yadav asked why PM Modi included Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati in his definition of ‘SCAM’ even when the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) have formed an alliance with BSP thrice in the past. Akhilesh said,”I wonder why PM included Mayawati’s name in ‘SCAM’ as earlier they have allied thrice to form government in the state.”

Modi ji se hum kehna chaahte hain, UP ek saath khada hai, isay toda nahi ja sakta hai (Modi ji comes and spreads hatred. We should send a message from here that he cannot spread hatred in Uttar Pradesh),” said Rahul adding that it’s not so easy to break the state.

Earlier on February 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Meerut which was his first addressing after SP and Congress allied to fight the assembly polls together. Targeting the 3 major opponents in UP, PM Modi asserted that these three parties were behind the increasing crime across the state and BJP will fight against it. He termed them as SCAM and said,”This is BJP’s fight against SCAM which stands for Samajwadi Party, Congress, Akhilesh, and Mayawati.”

In Uttar Pradesh, the polling for the assembly elections will take place in seven phases and will begin from February 11. The counting of votes will be done on March 11.
