'They shot me thrice' Indian doctor, captured by ISIS recalls horrific ordeals after being freed

Recalling the incident he told, "They used to force me to get into operation theaters, but I never did any surgery or stitches."

Dr.K Ramamurthy, an Indian doctor who was kidnapped by terrorist organisation, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), two years ago in Libya returned back to the country with the help of security agencies.

Thanking the Prime Minister and security agencies for his release, Ramamurthy said, he will never forget what he went through. Recalling the incident he told, “They used to force me to get into operation theaters, but I never did any surgery or stitches. ISIS did not do anything to me physically, but abused me verbally. They (ISIS) were educated youth who were well aware about India”.

Talking of ISIS Ramamurthy told, that one day took me to a room where there was another Indian and shifted to their Central jail which was in Sirte. There we met two another Indians who were captured from outskirts of Sirte (Libya) and had finished 2 months of jail term.

Not only this ISIS people use to force us to watch the videos of what they did to Iraq, Syria, Nigeria. Watching those videos was really difficult, he added.

Recalling the horror, Ramamurthy told it was during Ramadan last year when 16 ISIS people approached me as they needed doctors in their hospitals but as I was 61 and not surgically trained, I refused but they still posted me at hospital in Sirte that was near sports club. One day while working at a camp, I got bullet injuries to my left hand and both legs. They shot me 3 times. It was ISIS main doctor Kalab and other nurses who treated me and I stayed in ICU for 3 weeks.

He told, “ISIS organisation taught us about Islam, their rules and regulations. Those people taught about how to pray 5 times a day and how to clean up before prayers.”
