Cong stages 'RBI gherao' protest across nation against note ban, Sushil Kumar Shinde detained

Congress staged a massive protest in different parts of the country against demonetisation drive. They claim that RBI is no more autonomous.

Senior Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde was detained by the police official during a massive protest staged by the Congress party workers pan India against the demonetisation drive on 18 January. The Congress party members have also claimed that the RBI has lost it autonomy after Prime Minister Narendra Modi came into power.

Shinde was detained along with other Congress leaders including Shankersinh Vaghela and Bharatsinh Solanki detained by police in Ahmedabad. The Congress party had announced that they will stage a protest outside the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in New Delhi and also “gherao” RBI branches in different parts of the country.

The security officials are currently at the spot and are making efforts to control the raging crowd gathered. The officials have used water canons to disperse the large crowd of people.

While speaking at rally, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had recently claimed that the Congress party had strengthened RBI while the central government had weakened it.

Recently, senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh hit out at Prime Minister saying that with PM Modi claiming a transformation of the economy, people now know that the beginning of the end has come. Continuing his attack over the government’s decision to demonetise the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes, the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asserted that the demonetisation has hurt the nation very badly, while adding that things have now gone from bad to worse.

Terming it to be a massive “disaster”, Manmohan Singh, who has also been an Indian economist noted that the GDP of the country has gone down to 6.3%. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister had asked the people across the country to grant him 50 days to bring stability in the country and to even punish him if he failed to deliver.
