PM Narendra Modi congratulated President-elect Emmanuel Macron on winning the French President polls. Here's what he said

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 8 congratulated Emmanuel Macron after he emerged as the winner in the French presidential elections. Terming the win as an “emphatic victory” PM Modi asserted that he was looking forwards to work closely with the French President-elect.

“Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron for an emphatic victory in the French Presidential election. I look forward to working closely with President-elect Emmanuel Macron to further strengthen India-France ties,” he tweeted.

Macron registered a massive win by winning over  20.7 million votes by beating Marine Le Pen who managed to garner about 10.6 million votes in the elections. As per the official results, Macron managed to get 66.06 percent of total votes. Le Pen got about 33.94 percent of the votes.

“Let us love France. As of this evening and for the coming five years, I am going to serve with humility, with dedication, with determination, in your name,” Macron said after registering a huge win in the elections.

Additionally, it must be noted that Macron who is 39-years-old is all set to be the youngest French President. “It’s a great honour and a great responsibility. I want to thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will work to renew the links between Europe and its citizens. My duty is to alleviate fears and rekindle optimism. I will fight with all my strength against the divisions that separate us,” Macron affirmed.
