Girls going in wrong direction, meeting wrong people due to excessive use of mobile phones: BJP MLA

"Why do young school going girls need mobile phones?", asked the mayor of Aligarh Shakuntala Bharti

Raking up a controversy, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MLA  Sanjeev Raja and mayor of Aligarh Shakuntala Bharti demanded that girls going to school should not be allowed to carry mobile phones. The duo also went on to say that it is because of excessive use of mobile phones that girls in the city are going in the wrong direction.

Shakuntala Bharti made the statement while speaking at the Uday Singh Inter College in of Barah Dwari in Aligarh, she said, “Why do young school going girls need mobile phones? It is one of the reasons why girls of Aligarh are going in a wrong direction and meeting wrong people.”

They also raised an objection on girls covering their faces while going outside and also ‘advised’ the parents to ensure that the girls should not cover their faces while stepping out.

Agreeing with Bharti’s statement, Sanjeev Rana said, “I wonder why young girls cover their faces while riding motorbikes. It is like the idea of using mobile phones when all they have to do is go to school from home and come back home from school. It is the parents’ responsibility to prohibit girls from covering their faces”.

This is not the first time when a BJP leader has stirred a controversy, few days after a BJP MP from Barabanki, Priyanka Singh Rawat stirred up a controversy after she threatened to ‘skin a senior police officer alive’ over his alleged misbehaviour. Reports claimed that the BJP MP has threatened Additional Superintendent of Police Gyananjay Singh over the phone that she did not like his attitude.
