The Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Diamond Manufacturing Unit of Hare Krishna Exports in Surat on April 17. Lauding the diamond merchants of Surat PM Modi said, our aim should not only be Make in India but also ‘Design in India’.

The Prime Minister took to microblogging site Twitter and praised the diamond merchants of Surat for undertaking the Rs. 500 crore project for people’s welfare. PM Modi said, “As far as the gems and jewellery sector is concerned our aim should not only be @makeinindia but also ‘Design in India'”

He further said, “Surat has made a mark in the diamond industry but can we now look at the entire gems and jewellery sector.”

Earlier, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the Kiran Hospital in Surat built at a cost of Rs 400 crore.

He said that the government will ensure that the doctors prescribe only generic medicines so that monopoly of big medicine outlets can be broken.

Praising government’s Swachh Bharat mission as a part of promoting preventive healthcare habits, PM Modi said he was proud that his Surat has adopted the habit of cleanliness in such a way that they can be an example to other cities.

Addressing the meet, PM Modi urged all citizens to serve the nation with their hard work and said that India cannot be run by the government without the support of its people.”

“Since Independence, people wanted the government to do everything. But that has never been the nature of our nation,” PM Modi said.
