Continuing demand for reservations, Jats observe 'Black Day' in Haryana today

Jat protestors will wear black turbans, caps and ribbons and arm bands to protest against the government's policies in Haryana.

A ‘Black Day’ will be organized in Haryana by Jats today who have been carrying out their agitation for quota over the past 28 days. Jats from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh will also show their protest in New Delhi on March 2 against government’s policies.

Yashpal Malik, President of the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) who is leading the agitation said, “the community members will wear black turbans, caps and ribbons and arm-bands to protest against the government’s policies.”

The protesters are also planning a gherao of the Parliament. The dates for this will be announced on March 2.

Yashpal further asserted, “from March 1, there will be no cooperation with the government. No one will pay power, water bills and installment of loans that they owe to the government.”

“Jats from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh will also show their protest in New Delhi on March 2 against government’s policies,” Malik added.

Besides seeking quota in education and government jobs under Other Backward Classes category, the demands of the Jats include release of those jailed during last year’s agitation, withdrawal of cases slapped during the protest and government jobs for the kin of those killed and injured while taking part in the stir.

This time the Jat agitation is being supported by the main opposition party in Haryana the INLD. The INLD has asked the government to meet their demands.
