Ramjas violence: For every voice raised in anger, there'll be a Gurmehar, says Rahul Gandhi

A Facebook post by the daughter of a Kargil martyr, Gurmehar created a massive row as she came out to speak against ABVP in the wake of the violence at Ramjas College of Delhi University.

After several reactions on the facebook post made by the Ramjas college student Gurmehar Kaur, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi gave his remark on February 27 and said that whenever there will be any intolerance people like Gurmehar will evolve.

“Against any tyranny of fear, our party will stand with our students. For every voice raised in anger, intolerance and ignorance there’ll be a Gurmehar,” said Rahul Gandhi.

A Facebook post by the daughter of a Kargil martyr, Gurmehar created a massive row as she came out to speak against ABVP in the wake of the violence at Ramjas College of Delhi University. Gurmehar has alleged that she was threatened with rape after her social media campaign against the ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) went viral.

Earlier on February 26, BJP MP Pratap Simha from Karnataka has made a controversial remark against her. The BJP MP has compared Gurmehar with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. In the post, Gurmehar is addressed as a soldier’s daughter and is compared with Dawood, who is addressed as the son of a policeman.

Union Minister of Sates Kiren Rijiju took to social media and tweeted about this incident. He said “Who’s polluting this young girl’s mind? A strong Arm Force prevents a war. India never attacked anyone but a weak India was always invaded.”

Earlier, clashes erupted between activists of the All India Students Association (AISA) and the RSS’ student wing ABVP outside Ramjas College here last week, a day after the ABVP forced suspension of an event to be addressed by JNU student Umar Khalid.
