Civilians record massacre in Syria’s Aleppo; live tweet heartbreaking goodbye messages

Around 82 civilians, including 11 women and 13 children, were shot on the spot in four different parts of Aleppo

While the Syrian Army is moments away from retaking the rebel-held areas in Aleppo, thousands of civilians remain trapped in the opposition territory. As the battle between the Army and the rebels enters its final phase, many residents have started posting their goodbyes on twitter.

Seven-year-old Bana Alabed, who along with her mother Fatemah, has been tweeting the situation of East Aleppo since September, tweeted her last message after sending several distress calls to the world.

In her final message, she wrote that she was surprised at being alive and tweeting.

Final message – people are dying since last night. I am very surprised I am tweeting right now & still alive. – Fatemah #Aleppo

Bana in one of the heartbreaking tweets also mentioned that her dad was injured and it might be her last moment.

Mr Alhmado, a teacher, an activist and a reporter from Aleppo also tweeted his final message and pleaded the world to save his daughter in a series of heartbreaking tweets.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for an emergency meeting of the Security Council after reports of Syrian pro-government forces entering homes and killing civilians on the spot surfaced. According to the United Nations (UN) human rights office, around 82 civilians, including 11 women and 13 children, were shot on the spot in four different parts of Aleppo.

Ban said in a statement that it is a “wishful thinking” to believe that military advances will solve Syria’s crisis, and called for an immediate end to violence by all sides. He also added that negotiations are taking place among the parties for an evacuation deal facilitated by Russia and Turkey.

“We support these efforts and stand ready to help implement and oversee such an agreement, which we understand may now be imminent,” he said.
