The year of errors? 10 things that we cannot believe happened in 2017

2017 wasn't all rainbows and unicorns, there were a lot (and we mean a lot) of goof-ups. Here's a round up of all the things that went wrong.

A lot of great things happened in 2017: Virat and Anushka got married, Baahubali 2 made a lot of people rich, Priyanka and Deepika made waves in Hollywood, desi girl Manushi Chhillar became Miss World 2017, and all that jazz.

But 2017 wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns, there were a lot (and we mean a lot) of goof-ups and a few disheartening things that happened this year.

Here is a list of 10 things that went wrong in 2017:

1. The much awaited Justin Bieber concert

When Justin Bieber came to perform in India, all of us were ready with our puja ki thalis and teekas. Little did we know that the ‘Sorry’ singer would lipsync and then leave without attending any parties planned for him. Literally feels like the entire country got friendzoned by Bieber.

2. The ‘Ed Sheeran’ Bollywood party

What’s embarrassment times 1000? That. While the concert was amazing, at a ‘welcome to India’ kinda party thrown by Farah Khan, Ed looked hounded by Bollywood celebs (read, Farah Khan and Malaika Arora). His expressions in those pictures had the entire nation apologizing on behalf of Bollywood.

3. Kamlesh memes

A kid addicted to drugs, and a tone-deaf country obsessed with making memes. Instead of watching the actual documentary and acknowledging the fact that our country is struggling with a drug problem, we made memes and laughed at it.

4. Nothing too lady oriented, please!

It’s 2017 and a movie was denied certification by the CBFC for being ‘too lady oriented’. While Lipstick Under My Burkha released and did really well, we still can’t deal with the fact that ‘too lady oriented’ is a thing in 2017.

5. The Akshay Kumar- Mallika Dua debacle

When Akshay Kumar cracked an extremely sexist joke, the country was pissed at Mallika Dua for talking about it. Sounds about right. The best part? His wife, who claims to be ‘a bona fide member of an ambiguous tribe of the new age Indian woman’, defended it. Much wow.

6. Padmavati

We can’t really talk about it without receiving death threats, so..

7. The Oscar goof-up!

In what can be called one of the biggest goof-ups in the entire history of Academy Awards, La La Land was announced the Best Picture instead of Moonlight. Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway clearly wanted to pull a Steve Harvey, and did so successfully.

8. Priyanka ‘Chopa’

Twitter got really pissed during the 69th Emmy Awards when the announcer mispronounced Priyanka Chopra’s name and called her ‘Priyanka Chopa’. Now this could’ve been an honest mistake, but isn’t it an announcer’s job to know how to pronounce different names?

9. RIP Channel V

We lost our beloved Channel V. We had to bid a tearful goodbye to a place that gave us Kutty, Viva, Band of Boys and everything 90s.

10. Deepika is Priyanka?

On multiple occasions, the foreign media confused between Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. Seriously though, how do you confuse between two people who look so different?

That’s a wrap, see you in 2018!
