Demonetisation chaos: How to use India’s ‘wonder-wallet’ PayTM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s war against corruption and black-money has created a severe cash crunch in the country. The condition is so severe that even on standing in long queues outside banks and ATMs for hours, people aren’t getting any cash.

While this has created a gigantic problem for local vendors, it has also provided a boom to the cashless economy. On one hand, the local markets look deserted as people have no cash to pay, on the other hand, sales on online shopping platforms are soaring. Another area that is witnessing immense popularity during the testing times of demonetisation is- online wallets. Apparently, PayTM has become India’s favourite platform to pay bills.

But in case you are new to the platform and don’t know how to go about using it, here’s a stepwise guide to using India’s wonder-wallet PayTM. But before you go on a shopping spree you need to make an account.

Follow these steps to sign-up:

Step 1: Open paytm.com on your web browser and click on log-in/sign on the right-hand corner of the page

Step 2: Enter your details and click on ‘Create your Paytm wallet’

Step 3: Enter your personal details and the OTP for verifying your mobile number. Click ‘Create your Paytm wallet’.

Step 4: If you haven’t created a PayTM account using the mentioned mobile number click ‘No I Didn’t’. Click ‘Next’.

Step 5: Yay! You just made a new PayTM account.
Follow these steps to pay your recharge your mobile phone:

Step 6: Click on ‘Mobile‘ on your PayTM homepage

Step 7: Select if you have a prepaid or postpaid recharge.

Step 8: Enter your mobile number and select the plan you want to opt for. Click on ‘Proceed to Recharge‘.

Step 9: Click on ‘Proceed to Pay Rs XYZ‘.

Step 10: Enter your card details and click ‘Pay Now‘.
Follow these steps to pay your electricity bill:

Step 11: Click on ‘Electricity‘ option on your home page.

Step 12: Select the name of your electricity board, enter your account ID and click on ‘Proceed‘.

Step 13: Enter the amount to pay and click on ‘Proceed to Pay‘.

Step 14: Enter your card details and click ‘Pay Now‘.
Follow these steps to pay your landline bill:

Step 15: Click on ‘Landline‘ option on your home page.

Step 16: Select the name of your operator, enter your account number and landline number with STD code.

Step 17: Click on ‘Proceed to Pay‘.

Step 18: Enter your card details and click ‘Pay Now‘.
Follow these steps to pay your gas bill:

Step 19: Click on ‘Gas‘ option on your home page.

Step 20: Select the name of your operator, enter your consumer number.

Step 21: Click on ‘Proceed to Pay‘.

Step 22: Enter the amount and click on ‘Proceed‘.

Step 23: Enter your card details and click ‘Pay Now‘.
Follow these steps to pay your water bill:

Step 24: Click on ‘Water‘ option on your home page.

Step 25: Select the name of your Water Board and enter your K number. Click on ‘Proceed‘.

Step 26: Enter the amount and click on ‘Proceed‘.

Step 27: Enter your card details and click ‘Pay Now‘.
Follow these steps to pay your broadband bill:

Step 28: Click on ‘Broadband‘ option on your home page.

Step 29: Select your operator, enter your broadband number and amount.

Step 30: Enter the amount and click on ‘Proceed to Pay Bill‘.
