Twitter loses its cool over this Czech company selling Miswak as funky new toothbrush

A Czech company named Yoni has come up with a trendy new toothbrush- Meswak sticks, you know, the thing that Indians have been using for centuries.

If we were to tell you that the west has “discovered” something that the Indians have known for long, you would probably say, “what’s new about that?” Yes, we know that that happens quite often but this time, we have had it. A Czech company named Yoni has come up with a trendy new toothbrush- Meswak sticks, you know, the thing that Indians have been using for just about centuries!

The Miswak stick, that distasteful branch of a toothbrush that our grandparents made us use, is now being sold by a Czech company. And you will be surprised to hear the price. Each twig is being sold at 3.90 pounds, i.e., Rs. 315. This is just absurd!

Be it the Basmati patent battle or the never-ending debate about who discovered the medicinal properties of turmeric, the west has always managed to monetise India things, always pretending to have discovered or invented them.

We will have you know that these “innovative” twigs have been in use in India and other parts of the world like the Central and Southwest Asia, Arab peninsula, and several parts of Africa for over 7,000 years!

Looks like Indians have just about had it with the west because Twitter exploded with reactions to this costly Miswak. Here is what some people had to say:

How about getting back to neem and miswak sticks
Or you need #colgate or #pepsodent to package it.. ?? https://t.co/xjCcnVuXOJ

Really? You're going to take #Miswak, take a few edgy photos with some YT hipsters and try re-brand it the #rawtoothbrush. No. Just No.
