These astronauts held the first ever space badminton tournament

Russian cosmonauts and US and Japan astronauts held the first ever space badminton tournament at the International Space Station on Tuesday. Floating around inside the International Space Station module, Russian cosmonauts Alexandr Misurkin and Anton Shkaplerov, NASA’s Mark Vande Hei and JAXA’s astronaut Norishige Kanai played the matches in men’s doubles.

They chose not to keep score as per “specific space rules,” and the match served another purpose altogether, according to Hei. He says the activity helps in psychological relaxation and also strengthens bonding among the crew.
