“Happiness is a mysterious thing, to be found somewhere between too little and too much,” Ruskin Bond wrote in The Book of Simple Living. A classic example of ‘practice what you preach’, Ruskin Bond lives with his adopted family in a quaint town of Landour, near Mussoorie. He was born to British parents, Edith Clarke and Aubrey Bond in 1934. As India’s most beloved children’s book author turns 83 today, Twitter is super happy.
Millennials have grown up reading and cherishing his works like Room on the Roof, Night Train at Deoli, The Blue Umbrella, Delhi Is Not Far, The India I Love and many more memorable classics. Even at 83, the adorable author wishes to continue doing what he is best at — telling stories. There would hardly be anyone who has remained untouched by the magic that he weaves with his words.
His short stories like The Blue Umbrella and Sussane’s Seven Husbands have been adapted into Bollywood movies by director Vishal Bharadwaj. The Blue Umbrella (2005) even won a National Film Award for Best Children’s film. Priyanka Chopra-starrer Saat Khoon Maaf which released in India in 2011 won accolades with a number of nominations and awards with Priyanka Chopra winning the Best Actress (Critics) award at the Filmfare Awards.
