MTV Awards 2017: Farrah Abraham wears a Bollywood-inspired lehenga, gets trolled for cultural appropriation

"Teen Mom" star Farrah Abraham dons a three-piece lehnga to MTV Awards, sparks a backlash for being "culturally insensitive"

Many stars honoured the 2017 MTV Movies and TV Awards on Sunday night with host Adam DeVine heading on to a great start. It saw some of the best-dressed people as well as the mandatory ones who missed the mark. Sunday night belonged to women however – with actresses like Emma Watson, Millie Bobby, Amber Rose, Tracee Ellis Ross making strong statements with their bold choices. It also saw the first ever ‘genderless award’ – to acknowledge the lack of gender distinction bringing in a new change to the awards. In the midst of this, reality show star “Teen Mom” Farrah Abraham managed to turn heads, but not exactly for the right reasons.

The reality star was seen in a Bollywood-inspired ensemble wearing a three-piece pink and gold Indian lehnga-choli to the event. Her attire was from Taal Boutique & Bridal was paired with heavy necklace, maang tikka, bangles and a bindi. This came as a big surprise to her fans and even sparked a backlash on Twitter. People lashed at her for being “culturally insensitive” with most amazed that she chose to pick a lehenga for the event.
