Fans recount what meeting Kareena Kapoor Khan was like, and it’s not all fun

Kareena Kapoor enjoys the status of one of the best actresses in Bollywood. But can the star live up to people's expectations? Read on!

The kind of fandom Bollywood celebrities enjoy, is kind of amazing. Scary, but definitely amazing. In a country where films are the mainstay of most conversations, the hype around celebrities and their day to day affairs makes for catchy headlines. From Shah Rukh Khan, Tom Cruise, Madhuri Dixit to Kareena Kapoor, we all can agree that we have been through our phases of fangirling. From posters, wallpapers, sacred autographs, to dreaming of meeting them in person, we have all been star struck at least once in our lives.

But what if these celebrities meetings are nothing like what you imagined? Or in fact, what if your favourite celebrity is altogether a different person than you thought?

When we are swarming in a sea of adulation, we often forget that celebrities are humans too, aka, flawed.

One of the fans put forth a question on Quora: What’s it like to meet Kareena Kapoor? and fellow Quora members were kind enough to show both sides of the coin. While some described their experience as horrendous, others recounted how meeting with Kareena was a memorable experience.

Upon seeing her favourite star at the airport, this lady named Amala Rangekar, describes her excitement but also mentions that it was fairly short lived as when she went ahead and asked for an autograph and here’s what happened next:

Not a single expression on her face, no smile, nothing. She signed the back of my boarding pass and passed it back to me with the least interest. She did not respond when I said thanks, and walked away rolling her eyeballs.

While it was disheartening for her but what happened next scarred Amala’s viewpoint about Kareena for life. According to her, an elderly lady’s luggage had fallen in Kareena’s way and instead of helping her she gave her a disgusted look and passed few angry comments and walked away.

Many people asserted that most star kids are usually arrogant and feel they are superior because of their entitled backgrounds. Adding to this, another person named Dhwani Patel narrated her bad experience:

I was really one of her biggest fans when I was younger but this event changed my opinion forever. I got back there with one of my moms friends and I was a shy kid so my uncle introduced me and I smiled SO big and said hi. She turned and looked at me and made a very disgusting face. It wiped the smile off my face so fast. She didn’t even say hi to me and rolled her eyes and walked away.

But Palak Tuteja says we tend to judge people too soon. And she did too, since Kareena was always quiet and reserved, initially, she had an impression of her as arrogant but soon realised her how wrong she was.

I did perceive her to be rude and arrogant who would gossip with her friends and roll her eyes on almost everything, would make faces but would not say anything and it was very difficult to know what she wanted. However she would always smile while she looked at me, she never had extravagant demands like others stars have and also she was expecting at that time but never cried for attention. Which for me is the sign of a simple person.

Yet another fan, Saurabh Kshatriya defended the actress based on his readings of Kareena Kapoor’s fan page. He puts forth an important point that actors are always on a hectic schedule and sometimes it becomes difficult for them to deal with ‘constant anticipation of fans’. He shares some heart warming stories about Kareena:

I have seen stories of her warmness for her fans…Post Jab We Met, there was a fan who waited outside her apartment building for 2 days and she was shooting Tashan in Greece at that time…she flied back to meet him, in 2015, der was a fan who travelled from Melbourne to Dubai just to meet her and she was all warm and courteous, while shooting for Gori Tere Pyar Me, a fan insisted to meet her but crew wasn’t allowing him, when she got to know, she met him and clicked a picture with him (she was having her lunch at that time), Post Heroine, der was a lady who was standing in front of her building for hours, she not only met her but accompanied for lunch too…there is a group of fans in Hyderabad who are coming up with an app called “How To Pout Like Bebo”, she got ready to send them few situational images too and she is not being paid…..
