Orkut 2.0 Is Here. Is It Finally Time To Leave Facebook?

In the early 2000s, Orkut Buyukkokten taught us how to make friends on the Internet even before we knew what ‘social networking’ was. Sadly, Facebook took over social networking and there was no looking back as Orkut shut down. Life has now come a full circle with the downfall of Facebook and launch of a new social network by Orkut called ‘Hello’. Read the official statement right here.

According to their website, The Hello app is built specifically for the new mobile-generation and brings people together around their interests to create positive and meaningful social engagement.

In a interview, founder Orkut Buyukkokten said:

If you look at social media today, it has isolated people instead of bringing them closer. It has become more about broadcasting than sharing. We need a fresh start. Hello is built around interest-based communities where users with same interests can connect, leading to true connections.

The company already started Hello in Brazil in 2016, and now it is coming to India. After India, the company would look at rolling out its service in the US, France and Germany as well. Orkut was one of the most visited websites in India and Brazil in 2008 before its ultimate demise in 2014. Since Zuckerberg is now left fielding uneasy questions thanks to Facebook’s massive data breach, do you think everyone’s gonna move to Hello?
