Indian shuttlers have made it a point to end China’s dominance in Badminton and they have been defeating the Chinese players in major tournaments. Badminton sensation  PV Sindhu on Sunday became the third non-Chinese player to win China Open in the last 30 years. It is India’s pride that the other non-Chinese player who did that was Sindhu’s senior Saina Nehwal in the year 2014. Sindhu defeated Chinese Sun Yu to win the title. This was her first Super Series title, which came three months after she won the silver medal at the Rio Olympics.

The 21-year-old super girl played the finals at Fuzhou. She was up against eighth seed Sun Yu, who was backed by the local crowd. But this didn’t distract Sindhu as she played her heart out to emerge victorious against the mighty Chinese. She defeated Yu 21-11, 17-21, 21-11. This was the second title this year by Sindhu. She had won Malaysia Masters early in the year.

Sindhu had defeated South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun 11-21, 23-21, 21-19 to enter the final and was not the favourite to win the match against the Chinese who has been dominant all round the year. But Sindhu stunned her with her victory.

This was the third time in a row an Indian had entered tournament finals. In 2014, Saina Nehwal had won. In 2015, she had entered the finals but lost. This year, PV Sindhu has won the tournament.

PV Sindhu had been doing well recently. She performed better than expectation when she entered the finals of the Olympic games. She lost in the finals against Spain’s Carolina Marin. She got a silver medal. It was the only second medal India got in Rio Olympics. The other medal was won by Sakshi Malik in Wrestling. Sindhu became an overnight star after saving India’s pride. After Saina, she is the second P Gopichand pupil to have won the China Open.
