Fielding Coach Biju George reveals what happened in the dressing room after Women World Cup final loss

Biju George, the fielding coach of the women's team, reveals the scenario of the dressing room after Mithali Raj & Co. lost  the title in an interview

On July 23, the Mithali Raj-led Indian Women’s Cricket Team played the finals of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2017 against the home team, England. The Indian bowling department performed extremely well. Especially the most experienced bowler of the team, Jhulan Goswami who took 3 wickets off 23 runs in 10 overs. The batswoman, however, failed to handle the pressure towards the end and they lost the game by 9 runs. The entire Indian women’s dugout was gripped by sorrow while their supporsters’ eyes were wet. They missed a chance to script history.

Though they lost a big game by a narrow margin, they won a million hearts. When they came back home, a huge crowd of people gathered at the Mumbai airport to receive them. The entire women squad impressed us like never before.

Days after the world cup finals, the fielding coach of the women’s team, Biju George, spoke to leading sports website, Sportskeeda, where he described the scenario of the dressing room after Mithali Raj & Co. lost to lift the title. In the interview, he said,”We were pretty heartbroken, and everybody in the dressing room was crying. In fact, we had three English people in the change room, one liaison manager and two security officers who too were crying. This goes to show that the girls have won many hearts through their skills and the way they carried themselves on the field.

Although we fell short in the finals, the girls have won millions of hearts all across the nation with their stunning performances. And I feel this performance by the team is just the beginning of the great things to follow,” he added.

Further, he also shared his experience of being with the team in the world tournament. He said,”It was absolutely brilliant. Honestly speaking, I was a bit apprehensive about the fact how women’s cricket works but once I joined the camp, things were very different.
