Johnson Charles escaped a serious injury as Ravi Rampaul bowled one into him during St Lucia Stars vs Barbados Tridents CPL 2017 clash

St Lucia Stars player Johnson Charles struggled to stand on his feet when an inside edge of the bat ended up hitting him below the belt. Ravi Rampaul was bowling his first over to the opening batsman Charles, who was looking to pull back on the length of the ball, playing on the back foot. Soon after Charles was on his knees in agony and refused the non-striker batsman Andre Fletcher’s call for a single on the fourth ball of the over. Incidents like this are common in the game of cricket and that’s why protection is mandatory for players, especially for the delicate parts of the body.

Charles was quite lucky to not get seriously injured by the low blow. Though it seemed like the hit took a toll on Charles as he got out after scoring just 19 runs from 17 deliveries while chasing a massive target of 197 against Barbados Tridents.

It was a rather ordinary show from St Lucia Stars’ batsmen as they could only score 129 for 6 in 15.2 overs before weather decided to play spoilsport. The only exception was skipper Darren Sammy who took on the charge despite a towering required run rate. Sammy thrashed Barbados’ bowlers to score 60 runs from 29 balls including 5 fours and 5 sixes.

Sammy could not deliver the final blow as the rain halted play at Darren Sammy National Cricket Ground.

Kieron Pollard was named Man of the Match for scoring a lightning fast 83 from 35 balls including 5 fours and 6 sixes.
