Eden Gardens turned out to be a bowling paradise instead of a batting paradise. India beat Australia quite comfortably, in the end, winning the match by 50 runs and 41 balls to spare. Bhuvneshwar Kumar set up the game in the initial overs and in the end when Marcus Stoinis decided to ruin Kuldeep Yadav’s hattrick party. Indian bowlers manage to defend a score which did not look threatening despite the pitch being double paced. India have taken a lead of 2-0 with a win at Kolkata. Steven Smith blamed himself for not sticking with Stoinis till the end. Ajinkya Rahane too played a major role in the top order getting India off to a decent start despite losing Rohit Sharma’s wicket early.

The curator of Eden Gardens pitch surprised everyone as it had more grass than anyone would have expected. Even Australian skipper was caught by a surprise as he told media in the press conference, “(The grass) is probably more than I have seen in India for a while,”. Though he thought that it might be a ploy as well, “I will have another look tomorrow, see what the weather is doing, see if there are any changes to the wicket. The curator might roll it a bit more or cut it,” he added.

Weather Report-
The weather forecast of Kolkata does not look promising at all. We might see a rain-curtailed match if Rain Gods decide to spoil the party. It might get difficult for the batsmen as the pitch will be green and damp and help fast bowlers. A few passing showers are expected during the second ODI. Rain has already spoiled a few practice sessions, there is a possibility that it washes out the second ODI. DLS might come into play giving the team batting second an edge over the other.
