Soon after Kidambi Srikanth defeated reigning Olympic champion Chen Long of China 22-20, 21-16 to win Australian Open men’s singles title in Sydney on June 25, social networking site Twitter got flooded with congratulatory wishes for him. The 24-year-old player won his second Superseries title in a matter of one week after a victory in the Indonesian Open Superseries Premier.

Celebrities like Prime Miniter Narendra Modi, India’s cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, sports minister Vijay Goel took to their official Twitter handle to praised the shuttler.

“Badminton player Kidambi Srikanth recently won the Indonesia Open. He has made the nation proud,” PM Modi said in his monthly radio broadcast programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

“Heartiest congratulations to @srikidambi on winning 2nd successive superseries title. Proud of you champion! #AustralianSS,” Sachin Tendulkar wrote on his twitter account.

Srikanth displayed a committed gameplay in his dominating run to outclass Olympic champion Cheng Long of China 22-20, 21-16 in the final in Sydney. This is the first time Srikanth has been able to beat Long. With this win, he has become the No.1 shuttler in the world overtaking Son Wan Ho.
