Katrina Kaif might play role of Kapil Dev’s wife in upcoming biopic on cricketer: Reports

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif, known for hit movies like Namaste London, Rajneeti and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani among others, is leading the race to play the role of Kapil Dev’s wife in the upcoming biopic on the 1983 World Cup winning team captain. According to the latest buzz, the director of the film, Kabir Khan is in talks with Katrina Kaif to finalise the deal.

Katrina Kaif previously collaborated with Kabir Khan for various projects like New York, Ek Tha Tiger and Phantom. According to reports in Crictracker, Katrina herself had shown interest in playing the pivotal character in the movie.

Earlier, Kabir Khan roped in actor Ranveer Singh to portray the role of former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev. The film will be centred on India’s historic World Cup cricket victory in 1983. Besides finalising the leading lady, the casting for former players like Sunil Gavaskar, Mohindar Amarnath, Sandip Patil and others is yet to be done.

Kapil Dev, also known as Haryana Hurricane, took retirement from International cricket in 1994. In his almost 17-year-long career, Kapil Dev took 434 wickets and 253 wickets in Tests and One Day Internationals respectively.

Besides bagging wickets, he also scored over 5,000 runs the Test matches and about 3,700 runs in One Day cricket.

Test cricket:

  1. In early 1994, Kapil Dev became the highest Test wicket-taker in the world when he broke the record held by Sir Richard Hadlee. Kapil’s record was broken by Courtney Walsh in 1999.
  2. Kapil is the only player to have achieved the all-rounder’s double of 4,000 Test runs and 400 Test wickets.
  3. Kapil holds the record for the most innings in a complete career (184) without being run out.
  4. He is the youngest Test cricketer to take 100 (21 years, 25 days), 200 (24 years) and 300 wickets (27 years, 2 days).
  5. He holds the record for the best bowling figures in an innings of a Test match as captain (9/83) and in fact, he is the only captain to take a 9 wicket haul in Test innings.
  6. He also holds the record for the best bowling in a Test innings in a losing cause (9/83).

ODI cricket:

  1. In 1988, Kapil overtook Joel Garner to become the highest wicket-taker in ODI cricket.
  2. He has the record for posting the highest ODI score when batting at number 6 position or lower as well in World Cup history (175*)
  3. He also holds the record jointly with Neil McCallum for facing the most number of balls in an ODI innings when batting at number six position in ODI history (138)
