Mohammad Azharuddin comes to rescue of MS Dhoni, says, ‘He has always won as a captain’

Mohammad Azharuddin was disappointed with Rising Pune Supergiant owner when he sacked MS Dhoni as the skipper of the team before IPL 2017 player auction

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin firmly voiced his opinion on Rajeev Goenka sacking MS Dhoni as Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and his comments later on Twitter whenever RPS won the game. RPS have made it into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 final against Mumbai Indians (MI) to be played at Hyderabad under new skipper Steve Smith. But, it seems like Dhoni has been behind almost every decision on the field as he has been setting the field to talking with the bowlers and devising strategies when needed.

Azharuddin had a rare fanboy moment as he praised Dhoni for his efforts in the team despite being removed from the captaincy, he told India Today, “Dhoni has always won as captain. Now he may want to win as a player. Try to prove that I can win even when I am just a player.,”

He was also surprised by the Dhoni-Smith duo making it work for RPS and forgetting the rivalry between the two teams for the good, he said, “Once you are not a captain, you move on. I was not in favour of his sacking. But now Smith and Dhoni have created a good rapport. They have gelled well that’s when the team has delivered”,

He also declared his favourites for the IPL season 10 title, he said, “I think Pune will win. The playoff they won against Mumbai will be a big confidence booster. Ben Stokes will be missed though. But the way Dhoni is playing with those 40 runs he got in the last two overs, he can help them win the final,”
